LIFEPlan member Ian Singer
Ian Singer has been a LIFEPlan member for 2 years. Ian is 27 years old and works at a grocery store in Westchester County. He knows his Care Manager Valerie cares about his needs. Ian says she calls him to see how he’s doing, especially since the pandemic started in March. Despite taking precautions, Ian has had to quarantine and has friends in his residential community who have had COVID. This worries Ian. He told Valerie he plans to get the vaccine as soon as it is available.
Ian participates in self-directed services and is in the POINT program, run by Westchester Jewish Family Services in the Hudson Valley. One of Ian’s passions is music and prior to the pandemic, he enjoyed working as a DJ at local community events. Like so many individuals with disabilities, Ian misses being able to spend time with his friends, going to movies and eating at local restaurants.
He also says wearing a mask and gloves all day at his job is uncomfortable and makes work so much harder. But Ian has a plan that is both helpful and inspiring. “When the pandemic is over and I don’t need them anymore, I plan to donate my big box of latex gloves to the local hospital so they can use them to help others!”
We love this idea, Ian! Let’s hope you get to make that donation very soon.
