Members of LIFEPlan have Medicaid insurance, which allows them to qualify for disability services. All Members are eligible for Medicaid because of their disability or income. Each year their cases are reviewed by Medicaid to ensure they continue to meet the eligibility criteria. This is usually done once a year or as circumstances change. Reasons for change may be income, resources, living arrangements, etc. This review process is called recertification or renewal of Medicaid.
After the government declared a “Public Health Emergency” (PHE) due to COVID-19, Medicaid no longer enforced program rules, and many people qualified for Medicaid during this time as a result. Recertifications were not required for the past three years since the PHE was extended, and Medicaid benefits were automatically renewed.
The recertification process is a way to ensure that Members continue to meet the requirements for Medicaid. Now that the PHE ends on May 11, recertifications will be due again, and eligibility requirements will be enforced. Only members with SSI will not need to recertify. They will continue to be automatically renewed.
The Care Manager’s job is to assist Members throughout this renewal process.
