OPWDD Announces New HES Service Providers
OPWDD has announced that eight not-for-profit service providers have been approved to deliver Home-Enabling Supports (HES) services to people with IDD who are living in the community and are enrolled in OPWDD and Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waiver.
Home-Enabling Supports are meant to help people:
- Build or keep important life skills
- Improve communication and relationships
- Stay as independent as possible
- Be active and involved in their community
These supports can help a person rely less on staff who need to be physically present.
Examples of devices or supports a person may receive include:
- Assistive devices and technology
- Remote supports
- Health Assessment and Coordination Services (HACS)
HES give people with developmental disabilities better access to the same opportunities available to others in the community.
The selected not‑for‑profit agencies can buy Home-Enabling Supports on a person’s behalf if there is a clear reason to believe the support will:
- Increase safety
- Improve independence
- Improve health
- Help them take part in meaningful community activities
