Descripción del foro: Acompáñenos en un taller informativo donde podra conocer sobre derechos y cómo desenvolverse en el sistema de Educación Especial. En este taller, abordaremos:
- Procedimientos basicos sobre la Educacion Especial
- Sus derechos durante una reunion del Programa de Educacion Individualizado, IEP por sus siglas en ingles.
- Programas especializados en escuelas públicas: NEST, HORIZON, ACES y AIMS
- Cuándo se necesitan Evaluaciones Funcionales del Comportamiento (FBA) y Planes de Intervención del Comportamiento (BIP)
- Evaluaciones educativas independientes y cómo superar desafíos
- Mediación, audiencias imparciales y aceptacion en escuelas privadas
- Defensa de estudiantes que enfrentan abuso, acoso o maltrato
- Presentación de quejas, acceso a detalles de la investigación y garantía de la protección estudiantil
- Derechos de interpretación para reuniones y documentos escolares

Join us for a discussion on self-direction hosted by Nichole Hastings, the Coordinator of Self-Advocacy & Community Engagement at the Westchester Institute of Human Development. As an individual with developmental disabilities and a professional, Nichole has used self-direction for over 20 years. She has educated families, self-advocates, and service providers about her lived experience, using the program in both professional and personal capacities.
This presentation will provide:
• A definition of self-direction.
• An easy-to-understand explanation of how the program can benefit individuals with disabilities.
• The steps involved in getting started with and maintaining the program.
• A unique and personal perspective on how the self-direction can help an individual with a disability live a fulfilling and independent lifestyle.
