Communication access ensures that a person receives information in ways they can understand: Using plain and preferred language, visuals, assistive technology, interpreters, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), etc.
It’s not just about understanding words. It is about making sure you have the information you need to make informed decisions about your life.
We recognize the people we serve as decision makers in their own lives. Part of that means providing informed consent and signing your own Life Plan, when able. When you sign your own Life Plan you are:
- Making a decision about your goals, needs, services, preferences, and more!
- Building a sense of ownership over your life and your Life Plan.
- Exercising your right to choose!
Did you know that you have the right to request that your Life Plan (and other documents) be translated into your preferred language? If this is something you need, please talk to your Care Manager!
