Brittany’s Story of Work, Inclusion, and Independence

“Having a job gives you freedom and helps you feel responsible.”

This October, LIFEPlan CCO joins the nation in celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) by highlighting the voices of our members.

Brittany, a LIFEPlan CCO member, works at the Center for Disability Services’ Mail Fulfillment Center in Albany, a program operated in partnership with NYSID (New York State Industries for the Disabled). With the guidance of her job coach, Emely, and support from her LIFEPlan care manager, Brittany has built confidence and independence through meaningful employment.

In her own words: “All businesses should see disabled people not as slow—but as people. We can do any job, with or without support.”

The Mail Fulfillment Center provides contract packaging, assembly, and mailing services while employing people with developmental disabilities. Supported employment programs like this empower members to gain skills, earn income, and be fully part of their community.

At LIFEPlan CCO, we are proud to partner with organizations like CDSNY and NYSID to expand employment opportunities across New York State.

This month, and every month, we celebrate members like Brittany, whose hard work and determination show the true meaning of inclusion.
