November Forum: Early Prevention and Cognitive Screening for Adults with IDD

Join us for an informative and practical webinar focused on early prevention and cognitive screening for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This session will highlight the importance of promoting brain health across the lifespan and share valuable insights into proactive strategies that support cognitive wellness and reduce risk factors for dementia. The webinar will also introduce the Early Detection Screen for Dementia (EDSD), a tool developed by the National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices (NTG), designed to help identify early signs of cognitive change. Using mock examples and real-life scenarios, family members and caregivers will learn how to apply the EDSD tool in everyday settings. The session will demonstrate how the tool can guide personalized supports and services, while offering clear, practical steps for implementation and interpretation- empowering care teams to respond with insight, precision, and compassion.

Save the Date: November Forum: Post-School Planning for Young Adults Accessing Services Through OPWDD
Two online sessions:
Tuesday, November 18, from 12-1:30 p.m.
Thursday, November 20, from 6-7:30 p.m.
Join us to gather information on available employment and training program options and support services. This workshop is suitable for families of young adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities, preparing for the transition to post-school life or who have recently exited school. Additional NY State and other regional postsecondary options that families can explore will be provided. Considerations will also be shared for those families who may be visiting or selecting adult community-based day programs. Additionally, tips on utilizing OPWDD’s Self-Direction services will be offered. Time will be provided for participants to ask questions.
