Unstoppable! By Trevor Mason
I am very proud of myself! Yesterday, I got lots of blood drawn. I was nervous. Can I be honest? I was terrified, but I made myself go through with it. I can’t remember having my blood drawn before. It was so long ago. I am 27 years old now, and I have been spelling for 3 years now. For years my mom has been telling me that I need to get bloodwork done. She has said that it is very important for my doctor to have blood work test results to know if I am healthy. I was just too scared. I have recently overcome many of my fears. My fear of haircuts had to be one (the dreaded buzzer), and my fear of dentists. I guess, on that subject, this was the last one! How did I overcome these fears? Have to say that I’m not sure. Maybe it’s that I was able to talk about it by spelling on a letterboard and share my fears with my mom. Maybe it’s because I feel like a competent person because people treat me like I am. I am not sure, but so many things are coming together for me now. I am unstoppable!
Even Trevor’s doctor was impressed. She sent a note to Trevor when his results came in that said:
“Please tell Trevor that I am very proud of him for doing such a great job with his blood work! See you at your next appointment!”
Sincerely,
Dr. R
Congratulations on overcoming your fears, Trevor!
