Low-income New Yorkers are now able to apply for cooling assistance through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).
The Cooling Assistance benefit helps income-eligible households purchase and install an air conditioner or fan to stay safe during the warmer months.
Eligible households may receive:
- Up to $800 for a portable air conditioner or fan (including installation)
- Up to $1,000 for a unit in an existing wall sleeve
Funds are limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. This resource may be especially helpful for individuals living independently or in the community who may need additional support managing cooling costs.
