Committed to Helping Finn Move

Ginger is helping Finn with LIFEPlan’s Core Services: Person and Family Support and Care Coordination and Health Promotion

Finn, age 11, is a LIFEPlan Capital Region Member getting help with his mobility.

He has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, or DMD, a rare genetic condition characterized by progressive muscle damage and weakness. Like most individuals with DMD, Finn finds that his mobility is regressing.

Finn’s Care Manager, Ginger Record, is committed to helping Finn move on his own.

When the Make-a-Wish Foundation granted Finn’s family funds for a pool, Finn needed a lift installed to access the water. Ginger worked with the Dake Foundation to fund a lift, allowing Finn to enjoy his new pool.

Finn absolutely loves the water,” said Ginger. “His family goes on a beach vacation every July.”

It was Ginger who helped obtain an all-terrain wheelchair that had special tires that could move through the sand to allow Finn to go from the beach straight into the ocean.

And when Finn’s scooter was beyond repair, Ginger applied to obtain funds for a new one. “I’m actively involved in my community so that I can connect members like Finn to resources,” Ginger explained.

Her connections also led to another piece of equipment. “A family with a three-wheel bike sitting in their garage that wasn’t being used asked if I’d like to repurpose it. And like that, I got Finn a trike.”

Ginger has helped Finn find different ways of mobility, but the most significant development for Finn has been Ginger’s securing a vehicle modification to the family van. “It’s a brand-new modification,” said Ginger. “It’s a passenger seat that will load out of the van and come down to Finn. He can get into the seat by himself. It’s a real game changer.”
