Advisory Council Member Adopts Foster Child

Providing Unconditional Love

Over the course of the last few years, we have shared the good work and commitment of Mohawk Valley Member and Family Advisory Council member Steve Gonyea. You may recall Spectrum News’s recent story on the Autism Barn Steve built for his local community as well as the dozens of individuals with disabilities he supports in the foster care system.

But Steve and his family didn’t stop there. Way back in October or 2015, a young man named Ordell came into their lives. Over the years, the Gonyea’s have helped Ordell mature and provided him unconditional love. With the stability and support of this family, he was able to transition into Sauquoit school district, where he has thrived for the last 2 school years.

Ordell has gained confidence as well as the ability to express his feelings and needs; which is largely what has led to this wonderful announcement.

After 2,107 days in foster care, Ondrell is officially a part of his forever family. The Gonyea family has formally adopted this wonderful young man. We are told that Ordell is very proud of his new last name.

The LIFEPlan community congratulates all of the Gonyea’s and is honored to have amazing members like Steve on our MFA Council. His passion for helping others and commitment to the Autism community inspires all of us to be better every day.

LIFEPlan members are encouraged to join the Member and Family Advisory Council in their region. If this is of interest to you, click here for more information or contact your Regional Liaison
